Don Neuen leads the Hour of Power Choir

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is already here! With all of the busyness that comes with it, the holiday season can be over before we really get to appreciate it. We here at Shepherd’s Grove know how difficult it can be to set aside even a few moments to reflect on the season. While time may seem short, we would like to offer you an opportunity to take in Christmas with a service dedicated to its joy and meaning.

On Christmas Eve, we invite you and yours to experience the majesty of the holidays with us, as we celebrate with sensational music, powerful words, and the wonderful hope in the birth of the Savior.

Our Choir and Orchestra will immerse you in the anthems of the season, working in harmony with our Modern worship team to celebrate with one and all. Hear the Gospel not just read, but proclaimed in exuberant celebration. Take in Bobby Schuller’s message, as he passionately speaks into the birth of Jesus and what it means for us, even today.

As Bobby often says, “Nobody does Christmas quite like Shepherd’s Grove,” and we are aiming to prove him right once again. Hope and rejoice with us this Christmas Eve, and may we all have a blessed new year.

There will be two services on December 24, 2016 at 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm. For more information, please call Shepherd’s Grove at (714)971-4000.

On December 18, 2016, the Voices of Hope Children’s Choir will be “taking over” the sanctuary for an evening of music, Christmas spirit, and fun… All led by the kids themselves!

The children, rehearsing choreography

Starting at 6 pm, our wonderful young ones will be leading all those attending in a time of high holiday spirits as they share their musical gifts, led by director Sarah Grandpre. Hear the Christmas story as told by the children, sharing the story of our Savior’s birth. Expect a few fun musical surprises as well!

Following the service, sweet refreshments will be served. Come and support the hard work our children have put in to performing, and experience the holiday spirit as only they can share.

Do you have a child in 1st-10th grade looking to gain valuable vocal experience singing with our choir? Information, and an opportunity to sign up will be made available following the event. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 4-7, and our director requests unchanged voices only.

“O Holy Night” a Great Success!

On the evening of Saturday, Dec. 3, we were honored to host the annual “O Holy Night” Concert. Talented artists from stage and screen joined our phenomenal choir and orchestra for a night of stirring Christmas music. We had a full house, as our local community gathered to celebrate the season!

While there were far too many wonderful moments to list here, these are a few highlights from the show:

Our own Voices of Hope children’s choir, led by Sarah Grandpre, performed “All is Well”, with a surprise joining of the Hour of Power choir to back them up!

5 Reasons You Should Go to “O Holy Night”

Shepherd’s Grove is preparing for the Christmas season!

Christmas is just about to get in to full-swing, and we here at Shepherd’s Grove want to help you get the season going with a truly dazzling show! On December 3, our sanctuary will be filled with the sounds of Christmas as we present our “O Holy Night” Concert. This is shaping up to be a wonderfully special evening, and we want you to be a part of it. Here’s 5 quick reasons you won’t want to miss this show.

1. Amazing artists

We are overjoyed to have some exceptionally gifted artists performing on our stage, from powerhouse performers well-known to “The Voice” fans, to skilled entertainers of operatic and theatrical renown.

2. Watch it before the rest of the world

It’s no secret that the Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller has a global reach, and this concert will be no exception. A recording of this performance will be shared with our friends around the world, in places like the Netherlands, Hong Kong and Germany to name a few. Come take in the joy of the season, and know the performances you’re watching live will soon be enjoyed by people all around the globe!

3. Take a moment to breathe

Let’s face it; this time of year can get a bit hectic. By attending our performance, you are setting aside time to simply take in the wonder and enchantment around this time of year. As Bobby often says, even Jesus set aside time to rest, and so should you.

4. A white Christmas… in SoCal?!

Most of us here in Southern California enjoy the warm weather year-round, and are more than happy to avoid the harshness other areas of the world face in the winter months. Still, there’s something magical about a light snowfall that can warm you in ways a California climate cannot. We want to make sure you get to experience such an iconic Christmas moment, so make sure you’re prepared for a flurry or two while attending!

5. The gift of an experience

The truth is, you’re going to be putting your money towards many physical things this December, which are sure to bring joy, but nothing can beat a shared experience among friends and family. Those memories will last much longer, and are far more priceless.

Moreover, by attending our concert, you will be supporting a community ministry with a global reach, sharing the message of Love and Dignity year-round.

“Voices of Hope” Debut During Season of Rejoice

Voices of Hope

Voices of Hope

Voices of Hope, our children’s choir at Shepherd’s Grove, made their public debut  December 20 during a special evening Advent service held at Shepherd’s Grove. During Celebration of Advent: Christmas Extravaganza, the choir sang three songs beginning with All is Well and O Come, Little Children. They were then joined by Daniel Rodriguez and Karina Nuvo to sing Christmas Day by Michael W. Smith.

“Our debut was nothing short of outstanding, due to hours of hard work, tons of prayers, and supportive families and children who trust me and this program,” said Sarah Grandpré, artistic director for Voices of Hope. “It also was incredible to be able to give the kids’ families the joy of seeing them use their talent to glorify God.”

The evening also included the singing of carols, the vocal talents of  Marla Kavanaugh and the Shepherd’s Grove Community Orchestra.

About Voices of Hope
Under the direction of Sarah Grandpré, Voices of Hope is a tuition-free professional group of 4th through 8th grade students who share the message of hope through music both locally and internationally. The choir rehearses weekly at Shepherd’s Grove and performs at the church and on the Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller for major holidays. They also plan to tour in the future.

“Our mission for Voices of Hope is to share the message of hope through the very powerful language of music. To achieve that, my goal is to nurture the children’s self-esteem in a safe and supportive environment, resulting in musical excellence and professionalism. I aim to choose music that is wholesome and life-affirming, so that the truths of the Gospel can be reinforced to my singers and communicated through them to our world. Voice of Hope was formed with faith that God will bring us the right families to participate in this choir. I would love for the program to grow, and I trust that God’s plan is at work and with His grace we are moving forward.”

– Sarah Grandpré, artistic director for Voices of Hope.

Shepherd's Grove Christmas Village during Season of Rejoice

Nearly 1,000 Kids and Families Celebrate the Season at Shepherd’s Grove Christmas Village

Shepherd's Grove Christmas Village during Season of RejoiceThe smell of a crackling fire and sounds of beloved Christmas carols wafted through the air as Santa Claus — with the help of several volunteers — welcomed nearly 1,000 people from the Shepherd’s Grove congregation and community to the inaugural Shepherd’s Grove Christmas Village.

Held December 11 and 12, the Christmas Village offered a bevy of activities for little ones and their family and friends. One of the nights’ biggest hits, aside from the massive bounce house and inflatable slide, was the opportunity to throw snowballs and play in the snow. Also among the fun were a “reindeer” race, cookie decorating, nativity craft, screening of “A Shepherd’s Story” and the opportunity to meet Santa Claus!

The two-night event, hosted by Pastor Geoff Madison and the Shepherd’s Grove Family Ministry team, was an incredible experience thanks to more than 60 volunteers who dressed as Christmas trees, shoveled snow, welcomed guests, distributed hot cocoa and candy, and much more. We are so grateful for everyone who donated their time, money or resources to help bring the Season of Rejoice to our community!

The Shepherd’s Grove Christmas Village is part of Season of Rejoice, our six-week celebration of Christmas that culminates with three services on Christmas Eve. Click here for service times and details. We hope to see you there!

Receive God’s Gift for You

Pastor Bobby Schuller continues his series entitled “Hope in Your Winter” on the third Sunday of Advent with the message “Receive God’s Gift for You” at Shepherd’s Grove on December 11, 2016.

In this series, Bobby stresses the importance of facing our fears. Especially for those of us who worry on a regular basis, this is our time to open our eyes and heart to receive good things; stop always looking for the bad. Bobby alludes to multiple stories such as Aladdin, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars to accentuate the theme of the main character going through challenging obstacles to come out victorious. He mentions these spectacular journeys to emphasize that doing things that scare you train fear out of your life. You will beat your monster, and your monster will make you better.

You’ll Find What You’re Looking For

Pastor Bobby Schuller continues his series entitled “Hope in Your Winter” on the second Sunday of Advent with the message “You’ll Find What You’re Looking For” at Shepherd’s Grove on December 4, 2016.

Advent is a season of waiting, expectation, and desire. Many of the desires God has given you are good. In this message, Bobby stresses that if you want something, and it doesn’t go against anything the Bible says, then God probably wants it for you too. He encourages us to remind ourselves, “don’t lose hope; don’t give up,” because “He who seeks finds, he who knocks the door will be opened.”

Anything is Possible in the Kingdom of God

He reminds us that, while we may be faced with suffering, we must respond to seemingly impossible situations with faith. Winter is the season for starting over, and good things are always coming.
