Daniel Rodriguez - O Holy Night - Season of Rejoice

“O Holy Night” Welcomes Season of Rejoice at Shepherd’s Grove

Daniel Rodriguez - O Holy Night - Season of RejoiceBeautiful music filled the sanctuary this past Saturday, November 21, as nearly 800 people across two performances celebrated the birth of Jesus and welcomed the Christmas season at Shepherd’s Grove during the second bi-annual “O Holy Night.” The evening featured 16 songs performed by a stunning orchestra, the angelic Hour of Power Choir and spectacular soloists Daniel Rodriguez, Marla Kavanaugh, Mandie Pinto, Dorothy Benham, Diane Freeman-Reynolds, Logan Watts, Casey Zemen, Frank Snip, Michael Skidgel and Karina Nuvo.

The night also featured Scripture readings from the Christmas story by Pastors Bobby Schuller, Chad Blake, Russ Jacobson and Glenn DeMaster. A glorious narration of Jesus’ powerful life, followed by a choral rendition of “Joy to the World” brought the evening to a glorious conclusion.

“O Holy Night” also served as the launch of Season of Rejoice, a six-week-long annual holiday event that features entertainment for the whole family, as well as traditional and contemporary Advent services featuring inspirational messages from Bobby Schuller.

Sunset Fellowship at Shepherd's Grove

Sunset Fellowship at Shepherd’s Grove

by Pastor Bill Bennett

Are you longing for an old time, small church? Do you miss the old hymns- like the “Old Rugged Cross”? Do you miss knowing everyone there? Do you long to develop some great friendships? Do you desire prayer for you? Then you would enjoy the Sunday Evening Sunset Fellowship.

The Sunday evening Fellowship is an informal praise, prayer and fellowship time together, much less of a “church service” and, in effect, more of a “Christian family” that gathers together each Sunday evening for a good time together with scripture and lots of praise music and prayer. Even a time called “Prayerful Ponderings” with Pastor Sandra Herron.  We refer to this event as our “Sunset Fellowship”, with a time to get together for refreshments and fellowship following our praise and prayer time.

Our goal is to create an environment that people enjoy coming to and know that we are a “family” where we care for each other and pray for each other. A lot of our “family” have special hurts and special needs and are in need of prayer and fellowship, something that is very difficult to give them in a larger church setting. Many of our folks are alone, having lost a spouse or loved one, and we are here to help fill that void. The fact that we are reaching those, who need companionship and fellowship, is that nobody wants to leave our after service fellowship and would rather just “hang out” with us.

Oftentimes we will have special, spiritual music with professional and oft times recording artists, such as Daniel Rodriguez. We celebrate special occasions such as a Hot dog BBQ along with a patriotic orchestra on Memorial Sunday and an old fashion Ice Cream social on Independence Sunday. And, looking ahead to Veteran’s Recognition Sunday, we will celebrate with the Salvation Army Band, blessing us with spiritual and patriotic music.

So you can see that we, really, enjoy getting together for a time of worship and fellowship each Sunday evening and wish to extend an invitation to you to join us. If you have any questions or need more information, please call Pastor Bill Bennett at (714) 971-4034 or Pastor Sande Herron at (714)392-0269.

Achieving the Impossible Dream: A Musical Tribute to Robert Schuller

Blog by Pastor Russ Jacobson

Welcome to the ministry’s very first blog post!  We have been looking forward to this day for a very long time.  We have been searching for just the right method to keep you – our parishioners, viewers, supporters and friends updated with accurate, official content straight from the ministry.  It has taken longer than we anticipated, but we wanted to make sure we did it right.  We have now settled on the best approach and communication channel.  As a result, you can expect to see fresh content here every week as we strive to keep our friends around the world informed about what is new with Shepherd’s Grove and The Hour of Power.

As our very first blog post, it is my pleasure to announce that the ministry will be planning and hosting a gala event to honor our founder:  Rev. Dr. Robert H. Schuller.  The event is entitled “Achieving the Impossible Dream:  A Musical Tribute to Robert Schuller.”  This is not a memorial service, but rather a concert dedicated to a man of God who treasured music as a direct pathway to the human heart.   Please mark your calendars for 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Shepherd’s Grove.

You may already recognize the date – it is Father’s Day, and we selected that day on purpose.  Dr. Schuller was an earthly father to Robert A. and his sisters.  He was also a beloved grandfather to Bobby and his cousins.  To the rest of us, Dr. Schuller was akin to a spiritual father – an affirming, positive presence in our lives who exhorted us to overcome any obstacle and make every day a great day.  I never had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Schuller in person, but his teaching brought me to faith in Jesus Christ and transformed my life in extraordinary ways.  I can truly proclaim that my wife, children and I are Christians because of Dr. Schuller.

The details are still coming together, but we can already confirm that the world renowned Hour of Power choir and orchestra will both be present in full force under the direction of Don Neuen and Marc Riley respectively.  We will also be blessed with stirring performances by Dorothy Benham, Ken Medema, Daniel Rodriguez, Tom Tipton, and other special guests.  We also expect to have remembrances and anecdotes from personal friends of Dr. Schuller.   You will not want to miss this opportunity to honor Dr. Schuller through music and the spoken word!  The event will be taped for those who are unable to attend in person.  Please stay tuned for details.

Thank you for taking the time to read this inaugural blog post.  Please remember to connect with us on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.  Remember, God loves you and so do we!
