On Sunday June 28, 2015 Bobby Schuller, Chad Blake, and Russ Jacobson were ordained as ministers of the Word and sacrament in the Reformed Church in America (RCA) after nearly a decade of study, prayer, and discernment. This was the first triple ordination in the history of the California Classis – the regional body of the RCA. These pastors were also installed into the following positions within the ministry: Bobby as Lead Pastor, Chad as the Executive Pastor of Shepherd’s Grove Church and Russ as the Executive Pastor of The Hour of Power & Chief Operating Officer of the ministry.

Bobby, Chad and Russ are all graduates of Fuller Theological Seminary, and the denomination’s Ministerial Formation Certification Agency (MFCA).

We congratulate and pray for our pastors as they lead us forward to do God’s work.

Please leave a note of encouragement below!

The Sublimity of Gratitude and God’s Love

Pastor Bobby Schuller continues the series of messages on Living the Psalms- Encouraging the Suffering Soul. Today’s message is “The Sublimity of Gratitude and God’s Love.”

Pastor Russ Jacobson interviews Dr. Jim Kok, Certified Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education and a pastor with Crystal Cathedral and Shepherd’s Grove since 1984. Jim, along with Craig and Debbie Bourne, are the founders of Care and Kindness Ministries. Jim has devoted his career to the care of hurting people and training others to practice acts of kindness. His new book, Transform Belief into Behavior is available at careandkindness.org and wherever books are sold.

Directed by Don Neuen, the Hour of Power Choir performs three anthems by composer Joseph Haydn: “The Heaven’s Are Telling,” “The Marv’lous Work” with soloist Sarah Grandpre, and “Sing the Lord, ye Voices All.” The choir is accompanied by Zeljko Marasovich on the organ and Dr. Marc Riley and the Hour of Power Orchestra.

Grace and peace in the name of Jesus Christ. The ministry is thrilled to announce that at Bobby Schuller, Chad Blake, and Russ Jacobson were ordained as ministers of the Word and sacrament in the Reformed Church in America (RCA) on Sunday, June 28th in a service at Shepherd’s Grove Church. This was the culmination of almost a decade of study, prayer and discernment. Bobby, Chad and Russ are all graduates of Fuller Theological Seminary, and the denomination’s Ministerial Formation Certification Agency (MFCA).

This was the first triple ordination in the history of the California Classis – the regional body of the RCA. Please join us in celebrating this milestone! This ministry has a proud history of being led by seminary trained, ordained ministers, and this tradition is alive and well. Ministers cannot be ordained without a specific ministerial call, and we are pleased to report that Bobby, Chad and Russ will be serving us as follows: Bobby as Lead Pastor, Chad as the Executive Pastor of Shepherd’s Grove Church and Russ as the Executive Pastor of The Hour of Power & Chief Operating Officer of the ministry.

Bobby, Chad and Russ – we are blessed by your leadership and delighted to make this journey with you. Let us all continue to press on for the glory of God, and the advancement of his kingdom.

Announcing Your Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller

Announcing Your Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller

PRESS RELEASE

I have some very exciting news to share with you:  The Hour of Power is set to expand!   The ministry leadership has invested the past several months visiting with other religious broadcasting ministries, and benchmarking their best practices.  It quickly became evident that very few 60 minute ministry shows exist because they are quite expensive to film, edit and broadcast as paid programming.  Clearly, 30 minute shows are the norm today – and the wave of the future.

ANNOUNCING YOUR HOUR OF POWER WITH BOBBY SCHULLER

In response to this marketplace reality, The Hour of Power will be launching a new 30 minute program entitled Your Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller.  Think of it as an “express” version of The Hour of Power.  The format of this new show will showcase the sermon from the traditional worship service, with other elements added from time to time, such as an excerpt from the in service interview.

Your Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller will be debuting on KCAL-9 in Los Angeles starting on June 14, 2015 at the following times (all Pacific Standard Time):  6:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.  All programs will air following our friend and colleague in ministry, Joel Osteen.  The half hour format will be expanded to other markets shortly, with San Francisco and Tampa Bay on the immediate horizon.

SAYING FAREWELL TO KTLA

There is some sad news to report as well.   The ministry has decided to end its relationship with KTLA in order to free up funds for the KCAL-9 air time. Many of you know that Sunday at 10:00 a.m. on KTLA was Dr. Schuller’s long time spot, but this slot simply did not generate enough viewership to justify the significant cost.  The Hour of Power will air on KTLA for the last time on June 28, 2015.

ENJOY BOTH – NOT ONE OR THE OTHER

What about viewers who do not care for the half hour format?  No problem!  The 60 minute televised church service that viewers have come to know and love will continue to air on TBN and the Pop Network.  You do not have to pick one or the other.  Your Hour of Power with Bobby Schuller is available in addition to the current 60 minute Hour of Power.  Please rest assured that this is not the beginning of the end for the 60 minute program.  In other words, this is not the top of a slippery slope.   The Hour of Power will continue to be America’s Television Church, with the finest choir, orchestral music, inspirational interviews, and spoken word.

NEW WINESKINS

The Scriptures remind us that we cannot pour new wine into old wineskins and expect them to hold (Mark 2:22).   Doing so would destroy both the wine and the wineskins.  In launching the 30 minute show, the ministry has intentionally decided to pursue new opportunities and markets that would be financially prohibitive for a 60 minute show.  The Shepherd’s Grove Consistory has unanimously voted to endorse this half hour program as a cost effective way to reach the lost and least around the globe, while also retaining the full hour televised church service that is beloved by so many around the world.  The ministry is so grateful for the thousands of generous donors who make this ministry possible.  We remain committed to producing the very best in religious broadcasting, and delivering a world class worship experience directly to your home or mobile device.  Our past has been glorious, but the best is yet to come!

Blog by Pastor Glenn DeMaster

In Christian theology, all believers are called to be leaders and disciples. We all possess gifts, graces and talents that we have been blessed with to build God’s kingdom. Even so, certain individuals are called to be set apart as leaders of a congregation as ordained ministers. In the Reformed tradition, we refer to this office as Minister of Word and Sacrament. Those who are ordained to this office are called to a tremendous responsibility as leaders and shepherds. It is both a privilege and commitment, not to be entered into lightly.

Our church has always valued education, training and ordination for its pastors. I am pleased to report that this tradition remains alive and well. Our church has been blessed with three individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to this local church and the body of Christ: Bobby Schuller, Chad Blake and Russ Jacobson. They have now completed the requirements for ordination in the Reformed Church in America (RCA). All are graduates of Fuller Theological Seminary and the RCA’s Ministerial Formation program. All three have successfully completed their classes, papers, and presentations. They also passed their oral exams with the Classis of California and are approved to move forward with ordination. They even completed a summer program in Holland, Michigan at Western Theological Seminary. This is not a process for the faint of heart!

On Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 3:00 pm, this season of preparation will culminate in a service of Ordination and Installation as follows: Bobby as the Lead Pastor, Chad as the Executive Pastor a Shepherd’s Grove and Russ as the Executive Pastor — Hour of Power. Dr. Chuck Van Engen, a professor at Fuller Seminary, will be giving the message. Please mark your calendars for this historic event in the Shepherd’s Grove sanctuary. You will not want to miss this opportunity to celebrate the culmination of a very important and lengthy process.

I have made serving this church the last chapter of my life’s work. I want you to know that I am personally excited about the future and direction of Shepherd’s Grove and The Hour of Power. I am grateful for these three young men, very capable and highly trained, who are being called to be our next generation of leaders. In addition they are friends, colleagues and brothers in Christ. Please join me in congratulating them and wishing them (and us) the Very best.

Achieving the Impossible Dream: A Musical Tribute to Robert Schuller

Blog by Pastor Russ Jacobson

Welcome to the ministry’s very first blog post!  We have been looking forward to this day for a very long time.  We have been searching for just the right method to keep you – our parishioners, viewers, supporters and friends updated with accurate, official content straight from the ministry.  It has taken longer than we anticipated, but we wanted to make sure we did it right.  We have now settled on the best approach and communication channel.  As a result, you can expect to see fresh content here every week as we strive to keep our friends around the world informed about what is new with Shepherd’s Grove and The Hour of Power.

As our very first blog post, it is my pleasure to announce that the ministry will be planning and hosting a gala event to honor our founder:  Rev. Dr. Robert H. Schuller.  The event is entitled “Achieving the Impossible Dream:  A Musical Tribute to Robert Schuller.”  This is not a memorial service, but rather a concert dedicated to a man of God who treasured music as a direct pathway to the human heart.   Please mark your calendars for 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Shepherd’s Grove.

You may already recognize the date – it is Father’s Day, and we selected that day on purpose.  Dr. Schuller was an earthly father to Robert A. and his sisters.  He was also a beloved grandfather to Bobby and his cousins.  To the rest of us, Dr. Schuller was akin to a spiritual father – an affirming, positive presence in our lives who exhorted us to overcome any obstacle and make every day a great day.  I never had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Schuller in person, but his teaching brought me to faith in Jesus Christ and transformed my life in extraordinary ways.  I can truly proclaim that my wife, children and I are Christians because of Dr. Schuller.

The details are still coming together, but we can already confirm that the world renowned Hour of Power choir and orchestra will both be present in full force under the direction of Don Neuen and Marc Riley respectively.  We will also be blessed with stirring performances by Dorothy Benham, Ken Medema, Daniel Rodriguez, Tom Tipton, and other special guests.  We also expect to have remembrances and anecdotes from personal friends of Dr. Schuller.   You will not want to miss this opportunity to honor Dr. Schuller through music and the spoken word!  The event will be taped for those who are unable to attend in person.  Please stay tuned for details.

Thank you for taking the time to read this inaugural blog post.  Please remember to connect with us on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.  Remember, God loves you and so do we!
