On December 18, 2016, the Voices of Hope Children’s Choir will be “taking over” the sanctuary for an evening of music, Christmas spirit, and fun… All led by the kids themselves!

The children, rehearsing choreography

Starting at 6 pm, our wonderful young ones will be leading all those attending in a time of high holiday spirits as they share their musical gifts, led by director Sarah Grandpre. Hear the Christmas story as told by the children, sharing the story of our Savior’s birth. Expect a few fun musical surprises as well!

Following the service, sweet refreshments will be served. Come and support the hard work our children have put in to performing, and experience the holiday spirit as only they can share.

Do you have a child in 1st-10th grade looking to gain valuable vocal experience singing with our choir? Information, and an opportunity to sign up will be made available following the event. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 4-7, and our director requests unchanged voices only.

Grove Worship Releases First Album at Vanguard University

In the Valley - Grove Worship at Vanguard UniversityHands and spirits were lifted high Wednesday evening as Grove Worship, led by Tully Wilkinson, launched their first record during an incredible worship service at Vanguard University. The album, “In the Valley,” features 12 original songs each filled with intimate, reflective, powerful and hope-filled words of praise.

“These songs were written specifically for our community,” said Tully Wilkinson. “Our hope as Grove Worship is that these songs give them a song to sing from the mountain top, and a prayer to cry out from the valley.”

During the worship service, Tully shared that while writing each song, he drew from personal struggles and God’s triumph over them.

“I think what makes this album so special is that it’s real,” said Robert Laird. “Because it came from a struggle within, it’s deep and impactful. The songs are relevant, they mirror what’s going on in a lot of people’s lives.”

Sunset Fellowship at Shepherd's Grove

Sunset Fellowship at Shepherd’s Grove

by Pastor Bill Bennett

Are you longing for an old time, small church? Do you miss the old hymns- like the “Old Rugged Cross”? Do you miss knowing everyone there? Do you long to develop some great friendships? Do you desire prayer for you? Then you would enjoy the Sunday Evening Sunset Fellowship.

The Sunday evening Fellowship is an informal praise, prayer and fellowship time together, much less of a “church service” and, in effect, more of a “Christian family” that gathers together each Sunday evening for a good time together with scripture and lots of praise music and prayer. Even a time called “Prayerful Ponderings” with Pastor Sandra Herron.  We refer to this event as our “Sunset Fellowship”, with a time to get together for refreshments and fellowship following our praise and prayer time.

Our goal is to create an environment that people enjoy coming to and know that we are a “family” where we care for each other and pray for each other. A lot of our “family” have special hurts and special needs and are in need of prayer and fellowship, something that is very difficult to give them in a larger church setting. Many of our folks are alone, having lost a spouse or loved one, and we are here to help fill that void. The fact that we are reaching those, who need companionship and fellowship, is that nobody wants to leave our after service fellowship and would rather just “hang out” with us.

Oftentimes we will have special, spiritual music with professional and oft times recording artists, such as Daniel Rodriguez. We celebrate special occasions such as a Hot dog BBQ along with a patriotic orchestra on Memorial Sunday and an old fashion Ice Cream social on Independence Sunday. And, looking ahead to Veteran’s Recognition Sunday, we will celebrate with the Salvation Army Band, blessing us with spiritual and patriotic music.

So you can see that we, really, enjoy getting together for a time of worship and fellowship each Sunday evening and wish to extend an invitation to you to join us. If you have any questions or need more information, please call Pastor Bill Bennett at (714) 971-4034 or Pastor Sande Herron at (714)392-0269.

Grove Worship Album Update

Grove Worship’s Recording Session

Grove Worship’s Recording Session

By Tully Wilkinson

Ever since we reached our Kickstarter Campaign goal, two and half months ago, It has been non stop writing, recording and creating!  All the instruments have been tracked for Grove Worship’s debut full length record.

We are almost there! I am excited to share these songs with Shepherd’s Grove. I truly believe this album holds something special. Each song has a life of it’s own, yet throughout the entirety of the record there are constant themes that tie everything together. After some minor tweaks to the arrangements we will be ready to send it off to mixing and mastering.

Tentatively we are shooting for an album release in early fall. This project would not have been possible without the support of the Shepherd’s Grove community. I would like to thank everyone who supported this project whether financially or through prayer, it made all the difference.
